Whether it’s post-holiday, post-vacation, reigning in a runaway sweet tooth, or you’re coming out of a busy season that included more fast or convenience foods than you’d care to admit, detoxing and getting back on track can be made easier thanks to these detox shakes. They’re simple and can help keep your body nourished, your mind focused, reduce inflammation, and get your gut feeling better.
The post-holiday malaise that inspires unjustified and unattainable new year’s resolutions can be the very thing that keeps many of us from fulfilling those champagne-misted promises. Folks like to swing for the fences with their new year’s resolutions, and sure, it can be a great source of pride to tackle new and exciting life changes, but keeping your health and wellness a priority will bolster the odds of you learning a new language, nailing that new promotion, hitting the gym more often, or whatever else you’re planning on doing for yourself in 2018. Try these simple juice recipes to keep your body nourished, your mind focused, and your enthusiasm sincere while you’re tackling your new year’s resolutions.
This verdant cocktail is packed with potassium, folic acid, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and essential amino acids and is fantastic for brain, organ, and skin health.
1 bunch celery
4-5 kale leaves (preferably lacinato)
1 green apple
one big handful of flat-leaf parsley leaves
The juice of 1 lime
The juice of 1 lemon
1 inch of peeled, fresh ginger
Served at world-renowned Portland vegan restaurant, Blossoming Lotus, this specialty of chef Bo Rinaldi is a favorite of sweet-toothed health enthusiasts with penchants for classic Southeast Asian flavor profiles throughout the Northwest.
5 large Fuji apples, cored
1 (2-in.) piece peeled and sliced fresh ginger
1 medium lime
20 medium-large white basil leaves, pith intact
7 large sprigs cilantro, sectioned
If incorporating more green into your diet is a goal of yours, this luscious smoothie is a perfect introduction. The bold cinnamon (great for reducing inflammation, promoting brain and heart health, and defending against type II diabetes) and velvety sweet bananas (a robust source of potassium, calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, folate, niacin, riboflavin, and B6) will cancel out any biting bitterness from the greens.
2 cups unsweetened almond milk (store bought or fresh)
2 frozen (or fresh) bananas
1 1/2 packed cups fresh washed spinach
1 tablespoon raw hulled hemp seeds
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
pinch of Himalayan salt
